Frequently Asked Questions

How long will it take to get my piano tuned?

A pitch raise + tuning will take up to 2 hours.  If no pitch adjustment is needed, 1 – 1.5 hours.

How often should I have my piano tuned?

Your piano should be tuned every 6 months to 1 year due to seasonal changes in temperature and humidity.  If you are playing your piano regularly, every 6 months is recommended.

Can you come out to Burnet, Dripping Springs, or Lakeway?

Yes!  I service Spicewood, Marble Falls, Bee Cave, and the surrounding areas.

What is a Pitch Raise?

If your piano has not been tuned in 2 or more years, the whole range of strings has likely sagged in pitch and has gone “out of bounds”. First, the strings need to be brought back into the “playing field,” then they can be fine-tuned and set in proper pitch.  During a pitch raise, the tuning is not stable, due to large changes occurring in overall tension across the soundboard. So a pitch raise requires at least two tuning passes over all the strings, whereas, in basic tuning, you only have to tune once.

Do you tune by ear or do you use an electronic tuner?

I am trained in aural tuning.  I also use professional piano tuning technology.  I tune aurally, and also use technology in combination, to create the best possible tuning for your piano.

Can you restore my antique piano?

I can make small repairs (broken string replacement, fix a sticking key, solve a squeaking noise), but I do not specialize in large restoration projects.

How long have you been tuning pianos?

I started tuning my own pianos in 2014 and began tuning as a career in 2021.  I apprenticed for three years under the mentorship of Brian Henselman at MusicMasters Piano Showroom in Austin, TX, and passed all the rigorous examinations to become a Registered Piano Technician (RPT) in 2024 at the National Piano Technicians Convention.

Can you fix the buzzing noise in my piano?

Squeaking, buzzing, rattling, and clicking noises can come from several places inside the piano.  Sometimes it’s as simple as removing a pencil stuck in the action.  It may be a loose hammer head causing clicking sounds, or a squeak in the pedal mechanism.  Many times, I can locate and fix the noises.

We recently moved, when should I tune my piano again?

You do not need to wait 3-6 months to tune after a move.  Modern home environments are much more climate stable than in the past. Schedule your tuning 1-2 weeks after your piano has been moved, to allow your piano to settle into its changed environment.

Can you clean my piano?

I would be happy to safely clean your piano for $100.  Expect a cleaning to take an hour.

Do you accept Venmo or Credit Card payments?

I can take payments in cash, check, Zelle, or Venmo.  I am not set up to be able to accept payments by debit or credit card at this time.

Are you allergic to dogs or cats?

No.
